New Best for Scerri in Turin

Although improving on their best is often the main goal that Maltese athletes have when taking part in major championships, the burden of expectations often stops them from achieving that aim.
Not so Lara Scerri. The surprise choice to represent Malta in the European Indoor Championships set a new personal best mark at 7.98s in her heat on Saturday. This wasn't enough to see her avoiding finishing last in her heat yet that was secondary to her overall target where it was undoubtedly mission accomplished.
"It was a great experience to run indoors and be in such a nice atmosphere amongst well known athletes!" she said afterward. "Apart from that I managed to run under 8s which has been on my 'to do' list for the past 2 years!"
